Controls Build Technician is responsible for installing, programming, testing, calibrating, operating, and repair of control systems along with their related software, hardware, and equipment.
Responsibilities
Project Planning
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications
- Coordination between crafts, Engineers, Mechanical Build
- Prep management of materials; mounting surfaces for hardware, junction boxes, valves, regulators, air prep, wire/cable/tubing runs
- Troubleshoot and coordinate with team in order to determine problems and implement solutions
Panel and Enclosure Wiring
- Wiring of AC power circuits, disconnects, fuses, busbars, etc.
- Wiring of DC power circuits, relays, fuses, circuit breakers, safety circuits
- Wiring of PLC’s, specialty devices, servo drives, transformers, power supplies
- Principles of overload protection and proper selection
- Wiring of PLC’s and
Machine Wiring
- Installation of fastening and supporting devices, wiring fixtures, receptacles
- Bender machine setup and operation
- Conduit fabrication, conduit and raceway system running
- Lacing movable devices (Servos, Robots) with cables and tubing
Plumbing
- Reading Pneumatic and Hydraulic schematics
- Mounting of components, valves, regulators, flow controls, etc.
- Selecting fittings and tubing, hoses for different gases, fluids, correct pressure ratings
- Running of tubing or hoses, neatly
Qualifications
- Skilled in analyzing control system malfunctions and determining appropriate repairs; troubleshooting system controller boards
- Experienced in technicians’ tools such as electric meters, oscilloscopes, calibration devices, electronic testers, etc.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of PLC operation
- Knowledge/use of application software and data collection systems
- Knowledge of NFPA 79 code requirements
